In May, your vestry met for a two day in-house retreat. The retreat served three purposes: firstly, for everyone to get to know each other; secondly, to evaluate our past experiences with the church; and thirdly, to begin paving the way for the future of the Mediator. The first and second assignments were, understandably, a lot of fun. We raved on our church’s ability to create community among a people of diverse backgrounds. We spoke of our emphasis for intentional liturgy and worship. And we delighted in our continual aptitude for enjoying one another through education, service, parish meals, and all other fellowship opportunities.
Throughout our conversations our focus for the future of Mediator became clear. We must continue the good works of inclusivity, friendship, community outreach, practical Christian education, and, of course, worship. Simply put, we want to renew our emphasis to Mediator’s mission “to share God’s unconditional love with each other and the larger society.” To the vestry this commitment involves continuing our current offerings, maintaining our facilities for our current faithful parishioners, and modernizing ourselves for welcoming the next generation of Christians to Mediator.
With this goal in mind, the vestry has begun the hard work of creating a list of parish maintenance needs which we must address to preserve our buildings and ministries. Alongside this list, we as a vestry, are generating a dream list. The dream list includes areas in which we hope to grow and develop our ministry, facility, and personnel. Soon, we hope to open these lists to you so we can hear your hopes and dreams for your church. How can we better serve you? How can we aid your ministry? How can we grow more deeply into the church Christ calls us to be?
These are exciting times at Mediator! I am proud to be a part of this church; a church that simply won’t sit still. A church that knows its mission, and aggressively seeks to deepen and grow its impact. As always, thank you for inviting me and my family along for the ride!
