Adults

Sunday School

Both lay and clergy-led, this group meets at 9:30 on Sunday mornings.  While the curriculum changes over time, we can promise that you’ll be stimulated and have fun when gathering with this group.  Recent topics have covered, the lectionary, family systems, theological practices, the enneagram, and emotional inventories.  Check the parish newsletter or weekly email blasts for current topics.

Choir

Our Mediator choir welcomes members of all ages! They lead our music ministries, the Sunday 10:30 service, as well as special services throughout the year.  Under the directorship of Lora Tucker the choir practices on Wednesdays at 4:30 and Sundays at 9:30.  Lora welcomes instrumental and vocal collaboration!

Wayfarers

Desiring an out-of-town day trip?  The Wayfarers is the group for you!  They travel on the Mediator Bus to nearby towns for events, festivals, or just to grab a bite to eat and do a little shopping.  Jimmy Smith organizes this fun fellowship ministry.

EfM (Education for Ministry)

Education for Ministry is a four-year theological program developed by the School of Theology at Sewanee.  This group meets Thursday mornings during the program year to discuss scripture, church history, and theology.  This class will empower you not only with church facts but also a theological lens through which you will see the world.

Seeds of Faith

The Seeds of Faith Conference Series began at the Mediator in 1995 as a way to bring diverse theological speakers to our church and community.  Since, we have hosted 20 Conferences with voices such as, Barbara Brown Taylor, John Dominic Crossin, John Shelby Spong, and Amy Jill Levine.  These conferences promise to expand your understanding of the divine.

Young Adult Parties

You don’t have to be numerically young to attend these gatherings, just young in heart.  The parties are hosted a few times a year at different members’ houses with the sole purpose of connection and fellowship.  All those 21 and up are invited to attend!

BCP Study

Previously the Bible Study class, this group meets on Thursday mornings from 8:15 to 9:15 in the Parish Hall parlor to study the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer.  They are making their way through the prayer book from cover to cover, reading every service, every prayer, and every rubric.  If you want to better understand the Episcopal Church, join this Thursday morning group!

Jr. Warden Junkies

Do you like to fix stuff?  Well we’ve got 5 acres and 4 buildings; you better believe we’ve always got something to repair.  Help our Junior Warden keep our campus pristine by volunteering your time with our group of dedicated workers.  They usually meet on Thursday mornings and have accomplished much, from simple cleanup to welding, electrical work, plumbing, and refinishing.  You’ll feel accomplished when you go home from this group!

Parish Supper Cooks

We like to eat here at the Mediator!  If cooking is your gift, share it with us.  Every Wednesday evening during the program year, we have parish suppers cooked by our members (even our rector cooks a few times a year!).  Join our team of chefs by supporting or claiming a Wednesday.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild's purpose is to prepare the altar for worship at the Eucharist, the daily office, weddings, funerals, and other services.  The work of the guild includes making sure that altar hangings are the correct liturgical color, preparing the chalice, paten, purificators, corporal, and burse, and cleaning up after the service.  Several guild teams rotate throughout the month.

Ushers

Ushers are the first members of the parish to be met when parishioners and visitors come to worship.  A warm friendly greeting, along with help in finding a seat, conveys that our church cares about all people and is glad to have them worship with us.  There are usually four ushers at the 10:30 service on Sunday to greet worshipers, distribute the order of service, collect the offering, serve as oblation bearers, and provide any other assistance as needed.

Worship Leaders/Chalice Bearers

Worship Leaders are licensed by the Bishop of the Diocese after receiving training.  This group of men and women serve each at all worship services.  They read the appointed lessons from the Revised Common Lectionary, lead the congregation in the Prayers of the People, and serve the chalice during Holy Eucharist.
