We at Mediator invite you to experience our labyrinth. This labyrinth is a replica of one found at Chartres Cathedral in France. Open year-round, the labyrinth is contained within the Mediator’s memorial garden. This area incorporates a fountain and seating for mediation.
Labyrinths are archetypes, divine imprints, found in many religious traditions in various forms around the world. They are mysterious due to their unknown origins. Ancient labyrinths have been found dating back 4,000 years. They were used by early Christians as symbolic pilgrimages to Jerusalem.
The eleven circuit labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool used for walking meditation. Your meditative walk may be seen as a three-stage process. The first stage, as you begin walking, is known as purgation because it allows you to release and let go, bringing quiet and centeredness to the mind. When you reach the center, a place of meditation, insight, and prayer, you may experience the second stage, illumination. Stay as long as you like and receive what is there for you to receive. As you return from the center and retrace the winding path you begin the third state, Unction, which invites you to leave the labyrinth and join God in the world of the world.
Clear your mind and become aware of your breathing.
Feel free to go at your own pace, making stops as you desire. You may pass other people or let others step around you.
Remember, all things on your walk will instruct. Your walk is uniquely yours.
Take time after your walk to reflect and meditate.
Come back as often as you like.
On Wednesdays at 6:30 Sarah Mutziger is leading a group through a guided centering prayer meditation. Beginners are welcome as Sarah teaches the history and basics of centering prayer.
